Where Did the Semester Go?
We concur that the saying, “time flies when you’re having fun” is certainly true, and could not be more accurate as we wrap up our first semester of Junior year. Looking back on the semester in a mere glance is almost impossible. There were so many memories made, lessons learned, and stories to tell. Most importantly though, we finally learned how to find a balance. Balancing school, volunteering, social activities, and clubs can be a lot. We learned that sometimes you have to stay in when all your friends are going out to cram for that test or skip the party when you just need some sleep. In the end the weekend goes on, and that FOMO fades and on wednesday when you’ve finished that test or assignment you appreciate the study or “you” time you gave yourself the previous weekend.
Finding the balance can be extremely difficult. For us, it took a full two years. The most imperative thing we have found is to listen to yourself. If you feel the need to stay in, stay! You know yourself best and sometimes a movie night in just might be the medicine you need. However, we have also found that sometimes a night out with friends might be really what you need. If you have prioritize your time and feel like you don’t have a stressful week ahead, or can handle what is coming your way, go out, have fun, and enjoy yourself!
One of the most important things we have also discovered is when it’s time to buckle down, focus on school, but when you’re not, let your mind and the pressure go. There is no need to worry about all of your tests or papers that are due a month from now when you are at a football game or out to dinner. Trust us, we know this is hard to do, but you have to try your best! The opposite can be difficult though too. When you’re doing homework or studying put your phone away (yes turn on the do not disturb) and focus. You will be productive and able to have fun on the weekends.
Also, remember to “treat yourself!” This is so important when you have a busy week coming up. As you probably already know one of our favorite ways to do this is by getting our nails done and lunch at The Domain (or a quick trip to menchies)! The picture above was from a pretty busy weekend when we most definitely treated ourselves to ACL concert tickets and a football game! If you have a crazy full weekend, just make sure you’re focused during the week and that will definitely help you to be stress free!
Lastly, PLAN! If you know you won’t be able to do homework for a couple of nights, plan ahead! Fill your calendar with everything you have going on, make sticky notes, and use to-do lists and reminders on your phone so you ensure that you’re getting everything done you need to well ahead of time!
If you haven’t found a balance yet, don’t stress (like we said it took us two full years)! Finding that sweet spot of studying and having fun takes time, but in the end it is so worth it!
Cheers, Kenn and Rach
