Grocery Haul

Hi, after a short little break we are back with a fresh post! We wanted to share some of our favorite items to get at the grocery store. This picture is of Rach’s shopping cart, but Kenn gets the exact same thing. We both eat very similar meals/diets. We are both eating out for dinner most days this week, so these items will just cover breakfast, lunch, and of course snacks!

A little bit about our diets in general, we both eat primarily vegetarian but incorporate minimal meat (small amounts of chicken and fish) about once a week. We focus on whole and natural ingredients and try to limit processed foods. There are a lot of different diets and ways to eat out there, and we aren’t saying any of them are wrong/right, but we have found this is what works best for the both of us! We love dessert and try to treat ourselves to minimal amounts as we enjoy feeling healthy and in-shape. In the summertime we curb our sweet tooth with an array of watermelon, grapes and berries.

On this grocery haul we stopped by Whole Foods on our way home from lunch. We both normally instacart our groceries due to crazy schedules and using instacart makes eating healthy EASY!! If you have been considering online grocery delivery we 10/10 recommend. However, if you are shopping in person definitely don’t go on an empty stomach! You will want to buy everything in the store and spend money on weird snacks/treats you normally wouldn’t buy.

For breakfast, we both eat RX Bars. We normally have 1 and a half bars and then save the other half for the next day. This may not be the BEST breakfast, but it works for us. RX bars are an easy way to eat something healthy, but filling until lunch.  We are quite often on the go first thing in the morning and this gives us ample time to get out of the door or snag it on our way out. We also have been switching it up and adding Perfect bars into the mix. These are so delicious and we like to heat them up in the microwave before we eat them.

We are also kind of creatures of habit, so for lunch we stick to the same thing unless we go out or are feeling crafty on trying something new. We normally do some form of egg whites with different sides. This week we are both doing egg whites with Siete tortillas. Breakfast tacos for lunch are definitely a go to! For our sides this week we normally like to saute some Kale, tomatoes, mushrooms (basically any veggies!). Rach is also adding baked Falafel from Whole foods and Kenn is going with Avocado this week! Little changes to the sides can make this base a great go to meal. Sometimes we will add Ezekiel toast or an Apple with PB2. PB2 is a great peanut butter alternative, you can mix it with water for a peanut butter like substance (with 85% less fat) or use it as a dry topping.

Other items we grabbed were lots of fruit: strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, watermelon, cherries, grapes, you name it!! We love to add this to our almond/coconut milk yogurt at night if we need a little sweet treat or have it as a midday snack! We also grabbed lots of Kombucha teas. Our favorite kind right now is the Holy Kombucha and we love the Prickly Pear and Blood Orange flavors (we will be doing a more in-depth review of Kombucha flavors soon so stay posted on that one!). Of course we also had to grab some Halo. We recently switched to the dairy free kind and are LOVING it. The flavors aren’t as sweet to us which helps to make it a little less addicting.

Keep in mind this run was very small as we aren’t cooking dinner this week. We plan on eating out and soaking up are last couple days here in Austin. If y’all have any questions feel free to comment or send us an email! We would love to hear from you.
Cheers, Kenn and Rach
