Oscar de la Renta

Today we took a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts in Downtown Houston. The current exhibit on showcase for this winter season is Oscar de la Renta. We were so excited to see a huge collection of his dresses in person and learn more about the renowned fashion idol.

The exhibit showcased around 40 dresses and jackets. Each piece had its own unique character and the impeccable details were absolutely stunning. The tour began with pieces that were spanish influenced focusing on the timeless ruffle, and ending with more modern style gowns that you see on the red carpet today. We were told Taylor Swift donated her dress to the museum that she wore to the MET Gala in 2014. This particular piece was one of our favorites as you can never go wrong with pink satin and a stunning train.

The exhibit was remarkable due to the visibly immense amount of details and thought that goes into the design of these timeless pieces. Oscar de la Renta designs his pieces keeping a timeless image in mind and it is truly reflected (we definitely wanted to play dress up and try on every single dress!!)

One of Oscar de la Renta’s mottos is “When you rest, you rust!” We saw this at the end of the exhibit and had a little laugh since we both live such busy lives and it made us feel a little better about the lack of sleep we receive during the school year! Hats off to the museum for putting this amazing exhibit together, if you are in Houston or just swinging by, this is the place to go!! Definitely a trip to remember!

Cheers, Kenn and Rach
