Weekly Workout Routine
We’re all busy bees and we understand finding time for the gym can be daunting. However, spending 30 to 60 minutes a day breaking a sweat (or if you’re like kenn and refer to it as~glistening~) can boost both your physical and mental health. Taking a break from studying, working, or just running errands to release some endorphins and burn some calories is definitely a break well spent. Rach and Kenn opt to workout together for social and countability purposes!! Working out is our time during the day where we can update each other on our lives, randomly think of ideas for the blog, and show each other the new music we have found via Apple Music (we’re currently into jamming Taylor Swift’s new album)!!
We start each workout with 15 to 20 minutes on the bike or elliptical, and since we’ve incorporated our 5K training, hop on the treadmill every other workout. Upon completing the cardio portion we do an ab routine that has built throughout the semester which includes: v-ups, running man sit ups, reverse crunches with leg extension, wide leg sit ups, and bicycle crunches. You can watch a video with these specific ab exercises here. We tend to place abs in the middle of our workout to ensure we get these done!! Upon our burning ab workout, we alternate between leg and arm day. On leg day we rely on our GoFit resistance bands and engage in 4 separate band exercises focusing on our glutes, hamstrings, and quads. On arm day we use the matrix functional trainer and do 3 sets of 2 workouts focusing on triceps, biceps, and traps. If we want to feel an extra burn we will do 3 sets of 12-15 push up reps. We try to get a workout in 6 times a week and typically take a rest day either Friday or Saturday. If we’re running short on time (which understandably does happen around finals and the holiday season) we’ll hop in for a quick cardio and ab session.
We also incorporate Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide Workouts if we need to mix things up! We both have completed up to Week 8 in BBG Round 1 and love these body resistance workouts. If Kayla posts a new video to Instagram we love to give those a try too! If you are new to working out, these quick workouts are a great place to start as they keep you very accountable and there is an awesome BBG community on Instagram!
Also, since it LITERALLY SNOWED here in Austin today, we wanted to share some workout gear that is great for the cold weather. Sometimes finding that perfect number of layers can be difficult, so these quarter zips are absolutely great for layering. Rach wore hers with a tight Lulu short sleeve top underneath and Kenn opted for just a Nike sports bra today! These quarter zips are also great for wearing under a heavy jacket if you are running or working out outside. You can find a similar quarter zip to Rach’s and Kenn’s here since both of ours are now out of stock!
So grab a buddy or ride solo, pump up the tunes, and take some time for YOU!!
Cheers, Kenn and Rach
