Protein Packed Cocoa

Its that time of year again! We’re bringing out the fur coats, mittens, and muffs. We all love a decadent hot cocoa recipe, but we’d love to share one with you this holiday season that minimizes the sugar, is protein packed, yet delicious.


We begin by heating califia farms unsweetened vanilla almond milk on the stove top for two to three minutes and then add in a scoop, per cup of almond milk, of vega choc-a-lot protein powder found here.  We then added in some marshmallows for a touch of added sweetness, about ⅓ of a cup comes in at about 50 calories!! All together this hot cocoa is 150 calories (including the marshmallows) with 15 grams of protein.


We really enjoyed this substitute for hot cocoa. The texture comes out a little thicker than traditional hot cocoa so be sure to watch the milk on the stove top. We also recommend using skim milk if you do not prefer almond milk or don’t have it on hand!! Quest chocolate protein powder works as well for this recipe so deviate from our recipe as needed!


We made the hot cocoa popped some popcorn and enjoyed binging on the classic Hallmark Christmas movies. We hope you enjoy this protein packed cocoa and leave us a comment with your thoughts!!
