Balanced Brunch
Pancakes, omelets, waffles, avocado toast. The choices seem limitless when it comes to eating out in Austin, and quite frankly overwhelming would be an understatement. Do I pick the healthy option? Can I splurge today? How do I even want to look at My Fitness Pal?
We have all had struggles with copious options, especially at brunch… c’mon it’s two meals in one!! However, we believe that what is most important is to decide on what makes you feel best. For us, we have found that consuming too many sugary and sweet foods for brunch make us feel groggy, too full, and tend to end in naps we don’t quite have the time for. Don’t get us wrong we can definitely devour some homemade french toast or the famous snooze pancake flight, but at the end of the day deciding on an option that is best to fuel our bodies is the route we tend to take.
Yesterday morning we ventured to Snooze off North Lamar and 38th. It is definitely one of our favorite brunch spots close to campus and probably gets visited a little too often. We began our meal with a cup of coffee in that famous yellow mug and asked for a side of almond milk instead of creamer. We both chose options off the “like a feather” section and ended up with very similar meals, which we do have to admit...happens quite often. We went with an egg white omelet or scramble variation, with an add in of ham, tomatoes, and for the last add in option… we divert from our symmetry due to one of our taste aversions to the ~fun~gi found in many recipes. One of us sided with caramelized onions and the other mushrooms. We opted for fresh fruit in preference over the hash brown or potato option, and ended the meal with a single piece of whole wheat rye toast with a light dip in the Snooze homemade berry jam of the day. Our meal closes out at about 315 calories and 18 grams of protein which kept us satisfied and fueled to take on our Friday.
Sticking to the “like a feather” section of the menu at Snooze is a great way to enjoy brunch with friends or family while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Let us know if you have any favorites from Snooze. We would love to hear from you!
Cheers, Kenn and Rach
